NORTH KOREA - Tests AI-Equipped Torpedo

North Korea conducted an underwater test of a new torpedo weapon system to verify technological upgrades, state news agency KCNA reported, describing the test as a success and a significant step in the country’s naval development.

The test verified propulsion technology developed through more than 180 tests over the past five years, KCNA said, adding that artificial intelligence was used for target detection and guidance in the new high-speed precision-guided torpedo.

Meanwhile, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung oversaw the country’s first test-firing of a domestically developed hypersonic missile.

Seoul’s test of a hypersonic glide vehicle, a maneuverable weapon that can change course during flight, came days after North Korea said its leader, Kim Jong Un, had also overseen a test of an intermediate-range hypersonic missile.

Commentary: Two countries that are technically still at war (only an armistice was signed in 1953) are continuing to build up their militaries with modern technology. It’s surprising that even North Korea has incorporated AI into this new torpedo, showing that whether “by hook or by crook,” they are steadily improving their capabilities.

There will be no end to nations trying to one-up each other in the arms race. The article reveals that South Korea just tested a hypersonic missile for the first time, in response to a similar test in North Korea. As the Bible foresaw, “Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong” (Joel 3:9-10).
