LEBANON - EU Opens Support Mission

European Union foreign ministers agreed to establish a new support mission in Lebanon aimed at advising and training the country’s military and internal security forces.

The mission “will advise and assist the Lebanese Armed Forces and Internal Security Forces to strengthen territorial control, border security, and internal security,” EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said in a statement, adding that “Europe is invested in Lebanon’s future.”

An EU official said that the bloc hoped to deploy personnel under the new mission in the coming months.

The mission stems from the EU studying ways to strengthen Lebanese forces to help free up the Lebanese army to focus on disarming the militia group Hezbollah.

Commentary: “Disarming Hezbollah” is the reason Israel is fighting in the north. Depending on various reports, Israel has been mostly successful but failed to eradicate the terrorist organization Hezbollah entirely.

Will the European Union, with the support of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), be able to disarm Hezbollah? Very unlikely.

The answer to this particular issue is Jeremiah 16:15: “But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.”
