JORDAN - Erases Mentions of Israel

The Jordanian Parliament voted unanimously to remove mentions of “Israel” from the minutes of a debate, Jordanian and Israeli media reported.

Jordanian Parliament Speaker Mazen al-Qadi said US Ambassador Huckabee’s comments, which allegedly justified Israel’s control over “Arab lands,” violated international law and the United Nations charter. “These statements are a blatant provocation and a serious breach of state sovereignty,” Qadi said.

This decision came “despite Jordan having signed a peace treaty with Israel 31 years ago,” [journalist Roi] Kais wrote.

MP Abdul Nasser Khasawneh called for a more permanent removal of the “Israeli entity” from official discourse, proposing to refer to the Jewish state as the “usurping entity,” according to the Jordanian outlet.

Commentary: Jordan is a poverty-stricken Arab nation that can only benefit from Israel. But it continues to be an enemy of the Jewish State, despite having signed a peace treaty some 31 years ago.

We must go back to Biblical times. Who are the Jordanians? “And the first born bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day. And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day” (Genesis 19:37-38). Interestingly, Jordan’s capital city is named Amman, clearly a reference to the Ammonites. The Biblical territory of the Moabites is south of the Kingdom of Ammon. Today’s Jordan occupies the territory from the Biblical Kingdom of Moab down to the Red Sea. We found an interesting Medium article by Freda Savahl:

The land of Moab, situated east of the Dead Sea, was inhabited by the Moabites during the Exodus. Today, it falls within Jordan.

The Moabites are descendants of Moab, the son of Lot, through his older unmarried daughter (Gen. 19:30-38). The name appears in Assyrian records and scripture.

Moab is mentioned in the Old Testament. Moab's king, Balak, hired the prophet Balaam to curse Israel, but failed in his attempt. During the time of the Judges, Eglon of Moab dominated the Israelites east of the Jordan for 18 years until he was assassinated by Ehud (Judges 3:12-30).

King Balak’s intention was to curse Israel, But Balaam—the heathen prophet—declared: “I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth. And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly” (Numbers 24:17-18).
