Brazilian Christians’ Deep Connection with God’s Chosen People

An encouraging conference, messages that complemented each other wonderfully, and musical highlights.

I had the privilege of accompanying Philipp Ottenburg to the prophecy conference in Brazil for the second time. As in the previous year, several speakers had been invited. Philipp Ottenburg and Roger Liebi came to speak from Switzerland, Meno Kalisher from Israel, and Dr. Michael Svigel from the US. Daniel Lima, our colleague and pastor at our Porto Alegre site, was also present.

Subject and Focus

The central theme of the entire conference was “Maranatha—The Church’s Blessed Hope.” All the messages addressed this theme and powerfully complemented each other:

Roger Liebi examined the Church’s dual hope: the Rapture and the second coming of Jesus in power and glory.

Dr. Michael Svigel raised the question of the timing of the Rapture in a Church-historical and historical framework, and explained the developments very clearly.

Daniel Lima and Philipp Ottenburg expanded on the content through practical application, and demonstrated the consequences of these prophetic truths for personal life.

Meno Kalisher connected his prophetic interpretation with the question of how Christians should live in light of Jesus’ imminent return, and the attitude that should arise as a result.

This blend of theological depth, historical classification, and practical orientation was extraordinarily rewarding.

Music and Atmosphere

The music program was a highlight, just like every year. The church sang along energetically—with a palpable vivacity typical for Brazil, but which is substantially different from the rather reserved manner of the Western world. The music team from Word of Life in São Paulo performed the songs, along with other singers from Brazil, as well as Yael, Meno Kalisher’s daughter.

Israel Evening

On Friday evening, we had our traditional Israel evening. Meno Kalisher gave the message, with musical accompaniment by the Brazilian singers and Yael. This evening was especially moving, and once again displayed the deep connection that Brazilian Christians have with God’s chosen people, Israel.

Participants, Dedication, and Appreciation

Although it wasn’t a holiday weekend in Brazil, and expenses for travel, room, and board are considerable, roughly 700 participants traveled to Aguas de Lindoia, about two hours from São Paulo.

Many people took time away from work to attend. The large turnout and the attendees’ visible enthusiasm were very encouraging. Registrations for the next conference began coming in shortly after it was announced.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has remembered us in their prayers and supported our work in Brazil.
