What is Israel’s future?

“Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah” (Psalm 3:1-2).

These are the words David prayed when he fled from his son Absalom. David indeed experienced great suffering, danger, and possibly death before his time. But David is the beloved of the Lord, and that is what really counts.

Here we come to ourselves, the Church. Romans 5:8 declares: “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

For Israel, we read the long declaration of God in Deuteronomy 7:8: “But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.” Jeremiah 31:3 declares: “The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.”

Recently, YnetNews.com published an article headlined, “Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan to sign joint defense pact amid Iran tensions.” Just casually reading over the article, one thinks it’s all about Iran; not so. Read on: “Erdoğan and [Pakistani Prime Minister] Sharif met in Istanbul. ‘The talks also addressed regional and international issues,’ the Turkish president said at a joint press conference. ‘We support every step aimed at reducing escalation in our region and contributing to resolving problems through dialogue. The current Israeli government, which is addicted to wars, must not be allowed to once again plunge our region into the smell of gunpowder and blood.’”

Israel defending themselves against terrorists is totally overlooked. It is Israel who is responsible for “the smell of gunpowder and blood.”

When we carefully analyze these statements and compare them with recent history, the message is crystal clear: “Israel, you have no right defend yourself.” How fitting the introductory Scripture is: “many are they that rise up against me.”

Quite understandably, this complicates Israel’s possible official relationship with Saudi Arabia.

AP News adds: “The United Nations’ human rights chief said that Israel must end its occupation of large areas of southern Lebanon and halt the demolition of homes, days before Lebanese and Israeli officials [were] set to hold another round of direct talks. Volker Türk spoke to The Associated Press as he wrapped up a visit to Lebanon, his second in just over a year.

“Türk said some Israeli actions in Lebanon could amount to war crimes, echoing criticism from other human rights groups over the widespread destruction of towns and villages, and the dozens of medical workers and journalists killed” (apnews.com, 27 July 2026).

The seemingly never-ending complications and difficulties arising in the Middle East can be quite frightening, and obviously, no one has an answer.

BibleGateway.com lists thousands of Biblical references to enemies—to be precise, 8,728. So when it comes to enemies, Israel has plenty.

What is Israel’s future? “And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn” (Zechariah 12:9-10).

Despite the Islamic world trying to suffocate Israel, we read over and again of their amazing success as far as the high-tech industry is concerned. We as believers do well to show our undivided support for the Jewish nation, because—contrary to all other nations of the world—they have the promise of the Creator: the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

During the past 70+ years, we have witnessed the unbelievable development of Israel: their totally hopeless position in the face of their Islamic neighbors, yet somehow still being able to emerge victorious each time. But that’s not the end: There is more to come. The prophet Zechariah concludes his book: “Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts” (Zechariah 14:21).
