PAKISTAN - Corridor to Bypass Afghanistan

Pakistan has launched two new overland trade corridors through Iran and China, offering Central Asian countries alternative routes to Pakistani ports after Islamabad closed its main transit crossings with Afghanistan because of security concerns.

The new corridors provide Central Asian countries, including Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, with overland access to the Arabian Sea through Pakistan while bypassing Afghanistan. Uzbekistan has already begun using the Gabd-Rimdan route to transport agricultural equipment and industrial raw materials.

Pakistan is also expanding the role of Gwadar Port within Phase 2 of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Located about 400 kilometers east of the Strait of Hormuz, the port is expected to handle increasing cargo volumes moving through the new land corridors as regional trade routes continue to diversify.

Commentary: Pakistan, an overwhelmingly Islamic nation, once belonged to British India.

Today, Pakistan’s closest friend and ally is China. Pakistan established diplomatic relations with China on 21 May 1951.

While there is significant conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan—both Islamic countries—communist China nevertheless is the great friend. It shares almost 600 kilometers of border between these two nations.

What is of interest is that religion plays a minor role in this relationship with communist China—and that, according to our understanding of Bible prophecy, is another step closer to world unity.

A Google search returns: “Trade between China and Pakistan is governed by the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA), which provides massive tariff reductions. Major imports from China include electronics, smartphones, and hot-rolled steel, while Pakistan primarily exports copper and cotton yarn.”

Here, we again note that merchandise is the key to cooperation and unity.

Regardless of which country or continent, the ultimate collapse will take place: “And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate” (Revelation 18:19).
