Israel, with an average life expectancy of 83.8 years, climbed to fourth in the world among OECD countries regarding longest lifespans, new data published by the Ministry of Health revealed.
Israel trails after Japan (84.1), Switzerland (84.3), and Spain (84). Further, this comes despite low public investment in health, compared to many European countries.
According to the report, Israel invests 7.6% of its GDP in health, while in Germany the investment stands at 12.3%, in Austria and Switzerland at 11.8% each, in France at 11.5%, and in Sweden at 11.3%.
One of the most impressive figures in the report concerns the infant mortality rate in Israel, which stands at only 2.7 per 100,000 births, lower than the average in OECD countries.
In the field of disease prevention, Israel also presents encouraging data. The country ranks second after Switzerland in the lowest preventable mortality rate, with only 134 deaths per 100,000 people, a sharp decrease compared to 170 deaths in 2010.

Commentary: Another almost miraculous result: A small nation, plagued by terrorism, repeated wars, and an increasingly negative attitude about Israel by the world, yet they demonstrate continued success.
Just for comparison, the US spends 18% of its GDP on health services, but when it comes to life expectancy, Worldometers reports it is only 79.8 years. The infant mortality rate stands at 5.1 per 100,000 live births.
The countries with the lowest infant mortality as listed by the CIA Factbook are Slovenia and Singapore, both at 1.5 (2024). It is noteworthy that besides the European countries, Japan, Singapore, and Australia are the healthiest countries when it comes to life expectancy.
We understand that Israel—at this point in time, according to the New Testament—is still in darkness. Yet their report card is more than fantastic. This most certainly is a foreshadow of things to come. The apostle Paul gives us a timeframe with the statement: “that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel shall be saved” (Romans 11:25b-26a).
We are a privileged generation. Many of us have witnessed the declaration of the independence of the State of Israel in May of 1948. Today, Israel has become a powerhouse; not only militarily, but also in the high-tech fields of agriculture, medicine, security, etc. But there is more to come. Deuteronomy 15:6 states: “For the LORD thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee.” That is Israel’s future.
