CHINA/INDIA - Surging Clean Energy

Record growth in solar, especially in China and India, was a driving factor for clean energy sources surpassing the world’s strong demand for electricity in 2025, according to a new global power analysis.

Last year also marked the first time this century that both China and India—historically major contributors of fossil power—saw declines in fossil fuel generation. In China, the decline was 0.9%, or 56 terawatt hours, and in India, 3.3%, or 56 terawatt hours.

China led the globe in solar, and is responsible for more than half of the world’s growth in both solar capacity and generation last year. China also accounted for most of the world’s rise in wind, with 138 terawatt hours added.

India, meanwhile, saw record increases in both solar and wind generation, along with strong hydropower output. In a reversal from fossil fuel generation increases—which for years, were driven by an economic rebound following the pandemic—India also saw lower-than-average demand growth.

Commentary: These two most populous giants of the world—India with 1.46 billion, and China with 1.41 billion—make up more than one-third of the world’s 8.2 billion population. To satisfy energy consumption, nations must resort to drastic measures; in this case, renewable energy.

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the world’s economy (based on PPP) stands at $222 trillion, with China leading at $44.3 trillion, followed by the USA at $32.4 trillion, and India in third place at $18.9 trillion. These statistics are based on “current international dollars.” Wikipedia explains that this “is a hypothetical unit of currency that has the same purchasing power parity (PPP) that the U.S. dollar had in the United States at a given point in time.”

When it comes to evangelical Christianity, a Google search reveals: “Evangelical Christianity is experiencing significant growth in both China and India, driven by underground house networks in China and a vibrant, internal missionary movement in India. Estimates suggest 44-100+ million Christians in China (potentially the world’s largest by 2030) and rapid growth in India, with high persecution in both.”

In both cases (India and China), it is difficult to determine an approximate number of real believers. But one thing is crystal clear: This growth ties in with Israel, for we read: “blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob” (Romans 11:25b-26).
