India to Commence Economic Forays Into Africa

India’s diplomatic and economic muscle will come together to engage Africa in a way that it has never done before. From corporates to the MEA, India will attempt to show to Africa that while hard economics underscore its current interests in Africa, it will not take the pure mercantilist route of the Chinese.

The backdrop to India’s newfound interest in the continent, of course, is the Africa blitz that China has embarked upon.

Shyamal Gupta of the Tata group, who is CII’s pointperson on business with Africa, told TOI, “India is moving in a sustained manner, promoting training and giving more assistance to developing linkages between small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of India and Africa.

He also clarified that just as India was looking for resources and markets in Africa, the aim would be to help develop Africa to the level where India could become a market.

Africa is the least developed continent but lately has become very attractive, not only for Europe but the two arising giants: India and China. This development fits into the global prophetic picture, particularly Revelation 16:12: “And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.”
