Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure” (1 John 3:3).

There is a fateful forgetting, “He…hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins” (2 Peter 1:9). Do you feel that you cannot get nearer to Jesus? Are your prayers to no avail? Is there no blessing and no fruit in your spiritual life? This is the cause: you have gotten stuck, on the way following Jesus, in sins from which you have not been cleansed. The precious blood of Jesus cleanses even from sins committed long ago, if we confess them in true humility. Then you can draw nearer to Jesus every day, not only timewise but also spiritually. In your heart the longing for Him will grow, “Come soon, Lord Jesus.”

Cleansing from our sins means becoming free. Purification is a continuous process. Through the cleansing of your former sins, you recognize Jesus even more. Through sanctification, you hasten towards Jesus. The person who is cleansed from his sins is willing to say, “My life belongs to Christ.” But when he is led into the mystery of deeper purification, he will exclaim, “For me to live is Christ” (Philippians 1:21).
