Paul, the traveling evangelist, was a believer, a servant of the Lord who would do only His bidding. How did he know what to do? The answer lies in his obedience, his selfless service; thus, permitting the Holy Spirit to speak.
After having established a number of churches, as documented in verse 5, we read in verse 6, “Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia.” No reason is given why he was forbidden to preach the Word in Asia. Again, we read in the next verse that they planned to go to Bithynia; yet it says, “but the spirit suffered them not.” Next, we read the above Scripture, “Come over into Macedonia, and help us.” Obviously, that was the reason why the Spirit of God forbade Paul to make other plans.
In this issue, we turn our attention to our missionary couple, Matias and Susi Steiger. Matias is the youngest son of the first Midnight Call missionary couple in Brazil, Dieter and Helga Steiger. They left Germany in 1965 with Markus, their first child. The other children—Daniel, Matias, Beate, and Debie were born in Brazil. Today, they all have children of their own. Markus is directing Midnight Call Ministry in Brazil, while Beate and her husband Claudio are working as missionaries for Word of Life, Brazil. Daniel, his wife Edmary and three sons, live in Germany where he is employed as an engineer. Debie is a nurse and resides with her husband, Micah Froese, and four daughters in Anderson, South Carolina.
Although Midnight Call Ministry had published a Spanish language Midnight Call for over a decade, due to the lack of knowledge in the Spanish language we ceased publication. The work was then taken over by our missionaries in Guatemala.
Realizing that over 40 million people in the United States speak Spanish, we sensed that our ministry was lacking in ministering unto Spanish speaking people. While Matias’ native language is Portuguese, and his mother tongue German, he spent many years in Uruguay during the time when Midnight Call Ministry International operated a Bible School in Montevideo; thus, he is fluent in Spanish. We truly recognize God’s grace and His ways in bringing Matias and Susi with their sons Silas and Patrick to our American headquarters here in South Carolina.

Here the report by Matias Steiger:
A New Way
Two and a half years ago the Lord spoke in my Bible reading and prayer time in a special way through His Word. I realized that something new was coming, but I didn’t know what. I began to pray specifically, “Lord, I’m ready if you want to use me for something new, but please show me clearly, and you open the doors.” I deliberately did not talk about it with my wife Susi, although I usually discuss everything with her. Three months later she asked me suddenly if something was going on. She herself had noticed that there might be a change. We prayed together from then on, trusting God’s guidance. The desire grew to minister to the Spanish and Portuguese speaking people in the United States. My brother Markus, for more than ten years, participated in Expolit (Spanish Christian Booksellers Convention) in Miami, Florida annually to offer new literature. One of the major difficulties was the lack of literature stock in the USA to fulfill orders immediately.
In June 2012, we spoke for the first time openly with the leadership of Midnight Call in Brazil, in the USA and Europe about our thoughts. We were amazed at the joyful reactions. The Lord had prepared the way. Some even said that they had prayed for some time that someone would take on this work.
Our desire is to move Spanish language literature to the Midnight Call facilities in Columbia, SC. There are more than 40 million Spanish-speaking people in the USA and about 140 million in Mexico. We will offer Bible based literature over the internet and by mail. There are also a lot of Brazilians in the USA, to whom we can offer Portuguese literature. Expolit is another avenue to reach bookstores with our Spanish-speaking resources.
We are motivated and look forward to these opportunities. Of course, we are aware that the beginning will be difficult. But we want to act in complete dependence on the Lord and in humility, looking forward to what He is going to do. For prayers and support, especially at the beginning of this new mission work, we are very grateful.
Noteworthy in this context is the situation of our son Patrick. He is 14 years old and has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). He is very often in his own fantasy world and has no sense of time (yesterday, today and tomorrow are all the same for him). In the school in Porto Alegre (Brazil), he was pushed to his limits without effectively learning anything. The school had no program corresponding to Patrick’s disability. For us parents, it was difficult to see our boy going to school every day just killing time.
