Colossians 1:21

Written by
“And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled”.

Here we have the third effect of the death of Jesus: the effect on our guilt. When Romans 5:10 says that we are reconciled with God through the death of His Son, we ask ourselves, what about our innumerable sins? I am unspeakably grateful that 1 Corinthians 15:3 says that “Christ died for our sins”—plural! So you may know with certainty that His death, His shed blood, has blotted out your whole great guilt. We read in this connection in Colossians 2:13-14, “…having forgiven you all trespasses; blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us.” Isn’t that wonderful?  His blood, the blood of the sinless Son of God, blots out your sins and mine, as though they had never existed! God Himself paid the price for them with the blood of His own beloved Son.

This is why the Bible says so often that He died for us, “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly” (Romans 5:6).
