Will Jesus bring peace?
Of course He will. He is peace in person. He gives us the peace that
passes all understanding. But there is another side of Jesus that He revealed
in His own words: “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not
to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his
father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against
her mother-in-law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household”
(Matthew 10:34-36). Notice that Jesus said “a sword,” not peace, in this
passage of Scripture. It is the two-edged sword of the Word of God that even
divides families. Those who allow themselves to be judged by the Word will
enter into the peace that is eternal.
