ISRAEL/EGYPT-Peace Treaty with Egypt Is Not in Danger, Minister States

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon said all the leading forces in Egypt realize peace with Israel is a “strategic asset.”

“The peace agreement with Egypt is not in danger,” Ayalon said during a speech in Beersheba. He said all the main players in Egypt understand the benefits of the peace agreement with Israel.

Ayalon’s comment echoed US State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland’s remark that the Muslim Brotherhood had given Washington assurances it would honor Egypt’s peace treaty with Israel.

Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, however, had a somewhat different reading of the situation, saying in an interview published in Britain’s Independent that Israel’s strategic situation has suffered as a result of the “Arab Spring.”

“The Palestinians are winning more than anybody else due to what’s happening in the Arab countries. That will come out clearly in the future.”

Haniyeh said Cairo would no longer close its border with Gaza, nor would it support any Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip.

According to Haniyeh, Gaza was a main reason for the revolutions in the Arab world.

“It was people’s anger at the regimes that cooperated with Israel and did not recognize the government here,” he said.

Ayalon, meanwhile, reiterated in his remarks that any reconciliation efforts between Fatah and Hamas that would allow Hamas to enter the PA government would require Hamas’s forswearing of terrorism, recognition of Israel and acceptance of previous Israeli- Palestinian agreements before Jerusalem would deal with it.

What the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt will do in the future, no one really knows for sure. But the option is there to tolerate coexistence. That’s the case with the Palestinian Authority, who has not officially recognized Israel as a sovereign state. What becomes clearer, however, is that the Arab nations, whether liberal or conservative, can simply no long ignore the ever-growing powerhouse Israel. The Jewish state is to be recovered with militarily, technological and financial.

The real question for Bible students and those who follow the prophetic Word is, when will Israel take possession of all of the Promised Land? Obviously, at the present time, it’s all but impossible. But God will interfere supernaturally to bring about the fulfillment of His promises to His people in due time.
