"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent?" (Romans 10:13-15).

These four questions, which are preceded by the statement of eternal salvation for all who call upon the Lord, are just as powerful today as they were almost 2,000 years ago. They are addressed to the Church, for all who believe and are born again of His Spirit. While we believe that Jesus is building His Church, He is pleased with willing servants who are ready to sacrifice everything in order to create fruit for eternity to His glory.

Here are the four questions:

“How shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?” The fact that many do not yet believe on the Lord Jesus Christ is answered in the next question.

“How shall they believe in him in whom they have not heard?” The Word of God is the power unto salvation. Subsequently, if that message is not being heard, then they cannot believe.

“How shall they hear without a preacher?” The Word of God has to be preached so people may hear and believe.

“How shall they preach except they be sent?” This fourth question hits home. The Lord is also asking each of us, “Whom shall I send?” We can talk about missionary activity, sponsor and participate in mission conferences, but they will only be effective when we are wholeheartedly involved.

It seems rather strange that the apostle asked these questions in the reverse order. The succession should actually have been, “Who will go and preach so the people may hear, believe and be saved?” Such logical analysis, however, places the burden of responsibility on the preacher or the missionary. Thus, the missionary organization or preacher of God’s Word seems to be decisive. Therefore, the Word of God puts in proper perspective that salvation is of the Lord, the message is His, He will cause people to listen and believe — all we have to do is be obedient.

Next you will find a report from our missionary co-worker, Lazarus M. Wanjala of Kenya. My son Micah and his wife Debora confirmed the terrible economic situation of this nation when they traveled to Kenya on a medical missionary trip sponsored by Samaritan Purse headed by Franklyn Graham. The need is great; almost overwhelming.

KENYA

Missionary Lazarus M. Wanjala Greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank you for the great work that you are doing – your reward is already in the hands of the Lord.

You are not laboring in vain; your great offerings that you have given unto us are written in the Book of Life. Keep on doing well. Don’t faint.

Recently I had a crusade in Myanga Market where the Lord moved greatly. People were touched when they had the Gospel preached to them. Twenty souls accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior. The Lord healed the sick. I also distributed many [copies of] Midnight Call magazine. We have arranged three larger seminars ahead in the following months: April, August and December. We shall also hold some crusades and begin house-to-house evangelism. We need your prayers.

Also, we had a youth seminar, which was held in Myanga. We had two teachers from Busia District and experienced the presence and power of God move in a mighty way. Three girls and one boy received Jesus as their Savior.

We are fasting and praying for our country. Bad events are occurring now and then. We were in the District office at Bumula Division recently where we prayed for the following: Food and water because the rivers are dried up. No grass for the animals, the land is very dry.
