First or Seventh Day?

Dear Sir,

My family was stranded in Czechoslovakia during WWII. I experienced life under the Nazis for six years, and later under communists, who confiscated our home. At the time, my father said, “Freedom is worth everything.”

I was raised a Catholic, but later in life, when I started to read the Bible, I concluded that not all I believed was based on the Bible.

Sunday worship is my first concern since Sunday is the first day of the week, but the Sabbath is the seventh day. I am quite confused, because all different denominations are not fully biblical.

From your vast knowledge of the Bible, I need your advice as to which denomination in your opinion would be the one that follows the teachings of Jesus Christ.

-J. Drnec, CO

Answer: You are not asking a question, but making a statement regarding the seventh day. The Bible is very clear. The entire law is nailed to the cross (Colossians 2:14). Verse 16 warns against false teachers who attempt to lead believers back into the bondage of the law, “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days.” In Hebrews 7 & 8 we read, “there is made of necessity a change also of the law…A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.” Besides, the believers in the New Testament gathered on the first day of the week. Why? Because God had something new created. We no longer strive toward the day of rest, but we begin our week with the day of rest. For us, Jesus has accomplished perfectly and eternally His work of redemption once and for all.

Meddling with the law, given to the Jews, is extremely dangerous, for James 2:10 reads: “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”

About Swift Word News Service

Introduction to Swift Word News Service

Welcome to Swift Word. This 5 day a week Christian News Service with biblical comments is based on Psalm 147:15, "He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly."
The purpose: Jesus stated, "I will build my Church." That building process has been ongoing for about 2,000 years. Believers in Jesus Christ are to be found on every continent and in every country on planet Earth.
While Christians all over are concerned about their own country, the greatest concern should always be the building of His Church. Swift Word gives you the news, identifying its prophetic relationship to the Church of Jesus Christ, His body, the Temple of the Holy Spirit.
Following Swift Word 5 days a week will contribute to a better understanding of His Church in our time.
Please tell family, friends, and church members about Swift Word. Swift Word's number one priority is His Word, His Church, and developments around the world pointing to His return.
