Birth Control
Dear Brother Froese,
First I want to thank you for your Midnight Call. It has been a blessing to my husband and I.
My question: When did [having] children become a burden instead of a blessing? In the Old Testament, God clearly said, “Be fruitful and multiply.” My husband and I have taken those words literally. We have five children and one on the way.
The New Testament clearly says that Christians have been bought with a price and that our bodies are no longer ours; we are to present them as a living sacrifice unto Him. In doing so, we are looked upon as being stupid and not using godly wisdom.
Could you please enlighten me with Scripture whether I’m right or wrong concerning my options on child bearing? Is birth control even an option? The New Testament clearly says that Christians have been bought with a price and that our bodies are no longer ours; we are to present them as a living sacrifice unto Him. In doing so, we are looked upon as being stupid and not using godly wisdom.

Answer: Scripture does not say whether or not birth control is an option. But it does say that children are a gift of God. Scripture contains great praises from women who rejoiced because they were expecting a child.Needless to say, today’s prosperous society prefers luxury instead of procreation. You have chosen the better option. However, according to John 1:13, the will of man is involved, “Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man,but of God.” Therefore, the birth of a child is also the result of man’s will. Scripture allows that which was born of flesh to be subject to the will of man.
