Dr. John L. Cionci, May 1923 – November 2008
“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7).Our dear Brother, longtime friend, associate, and board member of Midnight Call Ministries has gone home into the presence of the Lord.
We count it as a privilege that the messages published in Midnight Call contributed decisively towards his decision for Christ, who became his confessed Savior and Lord.
After Dr. Cionci’s service at the Atlantic Coast Prophecy Conference in Myrtle Beach in 2007, he heartedly agreed to also serve at the Charleston Prophecy Conference in September 2008. That was the first conference he had to cancel, just a few days before the beginning, due to health reasons. A few weeks later, it became evident that his health was deteriorating. During a telephone conversation, the uniqueness of our brother was revealed in his frank acknowledgement that his time was very limited and that something new is awaiting. Immediately 2 Corinthians 4:16 came to mind: “though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”
There were many extraordinary characteristics we had the privilege to experience during our 22 years of fellowship, among which stood out his instant readiness to serve at any time, anywhere. His enthusiastic participation in the Lord’s work and the seemingly inexhaustible proposals he made in the capacity as a board member to improve, enlarge, and reach out with the message of the Gospel to people everywhere was a special mark. Our brother has contributed invaluable information, particularly in view of his medical expertise, which was greatly appreciated by our readers globally. Readers of the African and Asian editions in particular, insisted that his commentary be included in each issue.
Now that he has fulfilled his task and finished the race, he has obtained the rest: “For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his” (Hebrews 4:10). We share with our departed brother the peace of God which passeth all understanding – he from heavenly perspectives, and we who remain from earthly perspectives. Our prayers are directed toward his family and all co-workers and friends. Let us keep the joy, the courage and the faith, and hold onto Him Who is our Eternity.
